Shimano pedals always click in and out well. Had the 520 but the 540 is easier to maintain. In fact, you don't need a special tool to lubricate it. Which is necessary when using on the beach.

I am very satisfied with the pedals.

Perfect pedals for MTB or Gravel. Do yourself a favour and go for these instead of the cheaper ones from Shimano. Simple assembly and good construction.

First rode my fully with large flat pedals. Now switched to SPD. Likes them just fine. Clicks in and out easily. Never touch the ground in corners. More control and security when MTBing.

Know this product. In the 1st product, the bearing was broken in a pedal after 4 years (the 1st time). Otherwise, there were no problems.

Then so far enjoyed it very much. (One ride ridden) ask again in 2.5 years.

Very durable and "long-lived" pedals for XC and gravel. You pay premium for an upgrade in terms of the pivot design and weight compared to PD-M520. The bearings are better protected from wet and snow than in M520.
