Better engagement, more noise

- Sander, 5 March, 2022

Switched from an 18T ratchet to this 54T. The better engagement is definitely noticeable and a lot more pleasant than 18T. The sound is very loud, definitely bold but sometimes a tad irritating.

These toothed pulleys are a tuning for the bike, like the exhaust system for the car.

- Francesco, 27 May, 2021

These pulleys have been my dream for years, now I got them, the delivery was very short, even though the pulleys are sold out everywhere else! Mounting the pulleys couldn't be easier, and the sound is simply a dream. By the way, you can adjust the volume very easily via the amount of special grease, from whisper-quiet to really loud, simply brilliant!

Pros & Cons

better engagement angle is not possible

Effective and good-sounding kit

- Lorenzo, 23 May, 2021

I replaced the original 36-tooth kit with this 54-tooth kit. The sound has improved, now more audible, and the response of the pedals and the vacuum as soon as you start pedalling again has also improved, although the change is not as marked. I have some doubts about the durability of the kit.

Expensive for what it is but works well.

- Martin, 19 May, 2021

It does what it’s supposed to do, great upgrade from the standard 18t ratchet, shame the cost is so high for two small aluminium rings, two springs and a tube of grease. Great service from Mantel and delivered safely to the UK.

Simple changeover to 54 teeth for outstanding pedalling efficiency

- Antonio, 11 March, 2021

It's as easy as pie to fit this kit to replace the 18-tooth mm kit that came with the original wheel on my bike. The improvement in pedalling efficiency was immediately noticeable. The louder noise of the freewheel compared to the 18-tooth is not as annoying as I had imagined.

Pros & Cons

ease of assembly

A worthy upgrade

- Natalie, 22 September, 2020

This is one if those small upgrades that makes a big difference but is often over looked. It's one if those components that most riders never think about, just hear as they coast down a trail as it buzzes away. But it's an important part and depending on your riding style can make a big difference. Most noticable is how quickly the rachet engages delivering power to the rear wheel particularly on trails with sections that need the the odd pedal stoke here and there. The quicker engagement also makes pedal strikes more predictable when climbing technical rocky ascents and therefore easier to avoid them as there is less turn of the crank before power it delivered. My recent trip to the Peak District really highlighted this as valuable upgrade and I very pleased. I mostly maintain my own bike and all the components on it so I'm probably someone that notices the slightest difference with the smallest adjustment but I would say this particular upgrade is something most riders would benefit from even if they didn't notice it.

Pros & Cons

Makes a great sound
Precise and predictable pedal strokes
Quicker engagement
Haven't experienced any thing yet

Game changing performance, but too expensive and with it's own drawbacks.

- Souvik, 17 May, 2020

Makes technical climbing much easier but for 2 small pieces of aluminium, it's far too expensive. Not only that, but when putting down high torque, it tends to skip.

Pros & Cons

Amazing sound
Great technical climbing
Expensive for what it is
High maintenance
Tends to skip under heavy load
