Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • This wheelset is the best available choice among aluminium wheels with its extremely low weight of 1630 grams and its excellent DT240S hubs.
  • The PR 1400 DICUT 32 OXiC wheels have gorgeous features such as the all black brake tracks and diamond shaped hubs.
  • The ceramic OXiC brake track increases braking performance and wears more slowly than regular aluminium brake tracks.
  • With their low weight and 32 mm rims, these wheels excel in hilly areas; as they give you aerodynamic advantages as well, they are suitable for all-round use!
  • These wheels come with an extra freehub body to be compatible with both Shimano and SRAM XDR. The freehubs can be swapped easily without tools.
  • If you're looking for a DT Swiss wheelset with carbon rims, we recommend the PRC series.
  • If you often ride on rough, sandy surfaces, the black OXiC brake track may eventually show signs of wear.
  • Because of the 32 mm high rims, these wheels are slightly heavier than the 21 mm version. So, if you want lighter wheels, the DT Swiss PR 1400 DICUT 21 OXiC are worth considering.

Description

Description

The DT Swiss PR 1400 DICUT 32 OXiC road bike wheels rank among the best aluminium racing wheels. In a nutshell, they are super lightweight, attractive, stiff, have a reliable DT Swiss 240 interior and provide great braking power due to the OXiC brake track.

The PR 1400 wheels are aesthetically pleasing because of the diamond-like shape of the hub flanges. The wheels are constructed around the high-quality and smooth running DT Swiss 240 hubs, which will last a long time thanks to the low resistance in the bearings and their good sealing. The sleek DT Aero Comp Wide straight-pull spokes complete the picture. The DT ProLock Squorx Prohead spoke nipples keep the spokes firmly in place, ensuring a long service life.

The wheels have DT Swiss' own OXiC brake track. The ceramic OXiC coating ensures better braking performance compared to ordinary aluminium rims. In addition, the ceramic coating makes the OXiC brake track extremely hard, so some superficial wear may develop but it is less prone to deeper wear than regular aluminium rims. The tubeless ready rims have an internal rim width of 18 mm, which makes them suitable for road bike tyres of almost any width. With its low weight of 1630 grams and its 32 mm rim height, this wheelset can be used for all purposes - the DT Swiss PR 1400 DICUT 32 OXiC road bike wheels perform equally well on hilly as well as flat roads.

Technology

DT Swiss 240S hubs
A hub of Swiss precision, production and assembly. With smart and high-quality detail solutions, DT Swiss has made the 240 into what it is today: legendary. With the latest refinements and sealing, the 240 hubs are extremely light and extremely durable. The ratchet system grips quickly, which makes it easier to pick up speed again after a turn. The 240 hubs contain bearings with higher tolerances than the 350 hubs. In other words, even higher precision in their production results in even better running bearings with lower resistance.

OXiC brake track
OXiC is a process in which a ceramic coating is applied electrochemically to the aluminium rim, creating an extremely hard brake track; some superficial wear may develop but it is less prone to deeper wear than regular aluminium rims. The OXiC process gives the wheels a matte black, high-end look and guarantees fantastic braking performance in all conditions. Because the ceramic coating is applied electrochemically, the brake track will retain its colour despite being exposed to UV radiation.

Pro Lock spoke nippels
Pro Lock is a process in which a patented dual-component adhesive fluid is injected into the nipple thread, allowing for extremely durable wheel constructions. When the nipple is turned onto the spoke, the adhesive is activated and will begin to harden. When it has fully hardened, the wheel can still be adjusted, with only a minimal reduction in the locking function. As such, your wheels will be up to 20 times more durable, and spoke tension will remain accurate up to 20 times longer in comparison with wheels with no Pro Lock nipples.

Tubeless ready
These wheels are equipped with tubeless ready rims to allow you to ride with tubeless tyres and liquid sealant. This set-up minimises your chance of getting stranded with a flat tyre because any punctures are sealed with latex within seconds. Other advantages of tubeless riding include lower rolling resistance, more comfort and better grip. Of course, you can also choose to use your old familiar folding tyres with inner tubes.

Compatibility

• To be used in combination with a Shimano and/or SRAM 9/10/11 speed groupset, or even with 12 speed and the included extra freehub body!

Delivery includes

• DT Swiss PR 1400 DICUT 32 OXiC

Front wheel:
• SwissStop Flash / Race Pro BXP brake pads
• DT Swiss RWS Titan quick releases
• DT Swiss 21 mm tubeless rim tape

Rear wheel:
• SwissStop Flash / Race Pro BXP brake pads
• DT Swiss RWS Titan quick releases
• DT Swiss 21 mm tubeless rim tape
• Tubeless valve

Assembly

• Cassette removal tool
• Possibly a torque wrench

Installing a cassette on a wheel is easy if you have the right tools. If you purchase a cassette removal tool with a Shimano fit, you will be able to mount either a Shimano or SRAM cassette on your rear wheel. If you have a 9/10-speed cassette, first slide the spacer over the freehub body. Then you place the cassette onto the freehub. The fit of the freehub allows for only one way to do this. Finally, turn the washer on by hand, nice and straight, and tighten it with the cassette tool. Do so until it is tight, is the rule, or use a torque wrench to get it just right.

Check out the best way to make your wheels tubeless in our blog How do I mount a tubeless tyre on my road bike?

User tips

• When mounting your tyres, pay attention to the direction of travel.
• For 9/10-speed, remember to mount the spacer first before installing the cassette.
• Make sure the rim tape or tubeless tape sits properly in the rim base.

Black brake rim gives nice look like disc brakes

- Daan 12 October 2023

At first glance, a nice set of wheels. Installation was easy and the included quick-releases look just a bit nicer than the standard ones you get with your bike. Of course, the black brake rim is nice, but is the question how long it will stay that way when I start cycling so immediately in winter.... The rattle is otherwise not very loud or noticeable but I like the sound of it. No idea if I notice they are lighter, more aero or brake better than my previous simple mavic aksium wheels....

Pros & Cons

Beautiful black brake rim
Fancy quick-releases

A quality set of wheels

- Mr John C 29 April 2020

Out of the box, the wheels look great. I've only ridden 100 km on them so far and they feel great too. Spins beautifully. Brakes settled in with no drama. Replaced a set of Dura Ace 9100 which had issues of wear on the bearings. These have cartridge bearings. Easy to obtain spare parts at sensible prices. Hub design allows freehub to be changed easily -so I think we can expect a Shimano 12 speed one in due course.

Pros & Cons

Easy to obtain spare parts parts
Excellent build quality
Spin beautifully
Tubeless ready
None so far!
