Description
Description
Equipped with the latest technologies.
The Grand Prix 5000 is equipped with Continental’s latest technologies. An updated version of Continental’s Black Chilli Compound results in a perfect balance between rolling resistance and traction. With the ‘Lazer Grip technology’, the Grand Prix’s tread shoulders have been roughened. This provides the GP 5000 with excellent traction in turns. This laser profile also improves air flow around the tyre for a more aerodynamic shape.
More stability and comfort.
On top of that, the GP 5000 has an improved carcass. The new 330tpi, 3-layer build is more rigid than its predecessor. This provides the GP 5000 with improved stability in turns and at high speeds. The tyre is also equipped with an Active Comfort layer. As its name suggests, Active Comfort ensures high riding comfort. The Active Comfort layer has shock-absorbing properties and reduces vibrations caused by the road surface without impacting rolling resistance. Because of this, the Grand Prix 5000 provides a comfortable ride with optimal rolling resistance.
Improved puncture protection.
Lastly, this Continental tyre has an updated version of Continental’s Vectran anti-puncture strip. This extra inner layer offers extra protection against punctures. Continental claims this strip reduces chances of getting a puncture by 20 percent compared to its predecessor. In this way, Continental contributes greatly to the Grand Prix tyres’ sustainability. With the Grand Prix 5000, Continental introduces the new champion.

Brilliant tyre
Bought these as an upgrade to replace the standard tyres I got with my bike. Made a huge difference to my times and felt more planted when taking corners. Will continue to use these tyres.
Pros
- Good rolling resistance
- Good grip
- Aren't too expensive
Cons
- Puncture resistance isn't great

As good and better than the 4000s

28mm size not 28mm!
I loved the previous version the continental 4000s11, the speed and especially the comfort on knobbly Irish backroads. As this was fazed out I opted for the Grand Prix 5000.The new tyre is substantially smaller than the old 28mm which measured an oversize 30mm plus, the new one measures a scant 26 mm this may not sound like a lot but there is a huge visible difference in clearance on my Giant TCr Advanced 1 So what? The loss of volume means this tyre is a lot less comfortable than the old version. I am considering buying the 32 in the hope this is also undersized by a couple of mill and will fit into my frame.
Pros
- Fast
Cons
- Not size stated
- Side wall is more fragile than on 4000
- less comfortable than old version of 28

Great tyre
Grippier than the GP4000 II in the dry, not in the wet though, I feel less rolling resistance.
Pros
- Grip
- Low rolling resistance
- Good puncture protection
Cons
- Wet performance not the best

Amazing tyres
I finally wore through the stock tyres on my bike and needed replacements, I did have Continental GrandSport tyres but wanted to upgrade to the GP5000 tyres after hearing good reviews. Mantel had them at the best price and I’m really glad I bought them. The biggest thing for me is that they provide a superior ride quality to my old tyres, this was noticeable from the first few pedal strokes, they just smooth out the road and make riding a joy. Great grip and traction upon breaking too, I have a lot more confidence in my bike now.
Pros
- Excellent price
- Great ride quality
- Durable
- Great traction and grip

Detailed product description
Black Chili Compound. The designers of Continental went back to the drawing board to further perfect the Black Chili Compound of the Grand Prix 4000 SII. And they succeeded! Various test results show that the Continental GP5000 scores higher on rolling resistance, durability and wear resistance.
LazerGrip technology.
Continental has finished the edges of the Grand Prix 5000 with a laser. The laser profile adapts itself optimally to the road surface. This gives you an increased grip in turns. In high speed and wet conditions you can actually feel the difference!
Active Comfort.
A shock-absorbing layer is applied under the skin. This Active Comfort layer dampens vibrations and vibrations from the road surface. The increased comfort allows you to stay in an aerodynamic position for longer. This gives you an unparalleled driving experience.
Vectran Breaker layer.
The Vectran Breaker layer is an anti-puncture protective layer under the tread. This strip prevents sharp stones, twigs and glass splinters from passing through the tyre and reaching the inner tube. With this puncture protection strip you can enjoy increased puncture protection.
