Fast, easy tyres

- Thijs, 28 December, 2023

Very nice tyres. Much easier to fit than butyl tyres. Been riding with these for two years and never had a puncture. However, the valve head does break off after a while. This has happened 4 times already. Then the tyre can no longer be inflated and has to be replaced. Point of attention for Challenge.

Pros & Cons

Easy to fit
Low rolling resistance
Valve is vulnerable

Ride great, but are too fragile around the valve

- Miguel, 3 November, 2021

These inner tubes ride really great. Unfortunately, the workmanship is absolutely inadequate. I've already had a crack around the valve several times. The latex bulges there and it's not sturdy enough. Maybe they are sturdy enough for gravel bikes, as you ride with slightly more tyre pressure, but for cross, they are too fragile. If you plan to put these inner tubes on your crosser, I unfortunately have to advise against them.

Pros & Cons

Super supple
Substandard finishing
Too fragile

More suitable for gravel than cross-country with low tyre pressure

- Elke, 26 October, 2021

These inner tubes ride great and you have more grip. I ride them icm with Challenge Grifo folding tyres. Last winter, I toured smoothly with a tyre pressure of around 3 - 3.5 bar (weight 70 kg). However, I have one problem with these tyres: now that the cross season has reopened, I have already had two punctures with a tyre pressure of around 2.2/2.5 bar. Where the punctures came from then is a mystery to me because I didn't see an obvious puncture and therefore couldn't remember that anything could have caused the puncture. I later read in on the blog website fiets.nl a comment from someone that I do share: "The Challenge Grifo are already very supple. With latex bibas, they are even more supple, but experience shows that they then sometimes become too supple and the inner tube can get between outer tyre and rim." I can concur with this. So I recommend them for gravel rides because they ride and steer many times better than rubber tubes but be careful with the low tyre pressure. PS: while laying the inner tube, check very carefully that they don't get between the rim and outer tyre. This is where the red colour helps a lot.

Pros & Cons

Huge positive difference from rubber inner tube
Lots of grip
Rides fantastic
Frequent refilling
Not suitable for low tyre pressure

Great tubes with a major flaw.

- Dale, 29 August, 2021

Great riding tubes until they fail. Constant failure around the valve area due to a strange reaction where the latex bubbles and bursts.

Pros & Cons

better than butyl
don't suffer snake bite punctures as much
ride smooth
expensive
fail all the time

Never again.

- Leo, 23 August, 2021

Never again. A quick deflation a fortnight ago, today a blowout that also destroyed my outer tyre. On holiday in the south of France. Both times just next to the valve. No pluses, one star is still too much for this lousy tyre.

Spontaneous leak

Top latex inner tubes with removable valve

- Robbert, 12 June, 2021

I use them in combination with liquid latex that I add. Works amazingly well! It allows me to ride with less tyre pressure without frequent punctures.

Pros & Cons

Last very long for me (in combination with latex)
Less (impact) punctures at lower tyre pressure
Removable valve (I add liquid latex)
If punctured, harder to squeeze/roll out
Slightly pricier than butyl (if you stick those)
Vulnerable to water and cleaning products

All good so far...

- Stuart, 19 October, 2020

I boughT five of these latex tubes I readiness for this years National Trophy CX season. I learnt very quickly not to over inflate the tube before fitting as a bubble formed near the valve which made a the tube a bit too baggy - so be really careful. Performance-wise I can’t fault them. Yes the leak air so you need to ensure exactly what pressures they are at before you race - don’t rely on pressures from the night before as they will have gone down. They are super light and allow you to run low tyres pressures with your open tubulars - not quite as good feeling as tubs, but as good as you are going to get with clinchers.

Pros & Cons

High performance
Lightweight

Ultra lightweight - great rolling

- Mike, 10 December, 2019

Ultra lightweight seamless inner tube that rolls great with Challenge 320TPI cross tyres. They are supple as well, they won't avoid 100% of intrusions into the tyre but I've found some debris in the tyre that surprisingly hasn't punctured these Please bear in mind that due to the more delicate high performance nature of this product they need more care and attention than butyl inner tubes, some advice - 1. Take your time fitting them, avoid tyre levers 2. Put some talc in the tyre for dry lubrication when fitting 3. Make sure you have a good rim tape such as the Velox cloth ranges 4. If you are going with Challenge open tubular tyres pre stretch the tyres first on your rim with an old butyl inner tube, you won't regret it! Finally for a little piece of mind, I put in some Effetto Mariposa CaffeLattex in mine.

Best quality latex tube at this pricepoint

- Paul, 26 September, 2016

Having never used latex tubes before I was surprised how great the feel of the ride was. They loose pressure after 2-3 days but this was expected so it's no problem to put a bit of air in. Highly recommended
