Description
Description
The Scope S3 road bike wheels are a great choice if you are looking for a wheel set for the hills or high mountains. The low 30mm rim means that you are rarely bothered by the wind and the extremely low weight of only 1540 grams makes climbing almost effortless! Whereas braking with a carbon brake rim is often quite daunting, the S3 wheels give you a lot of confidence. The specially developed Scope brake rims in combination with the Scope brake pads ensure excellent braking performance, even in the rain. The braking surface can withstand temperatures of up to 280 degrees Celsius. Especially on long descents a high maximum temperature is a must. The Scope S3 wheels are therefore very safe.
The Scope S3 wheelset is equipped with durable SKF bearings with good sealing and low rolling resistance. Thanks to Scope's new 3-pawl hubs, more attention has been spent on sustainability. The wheels are built on low-profile, aerodynamic 30 mm rims with an external rim width of 26 mm. The pre-mounted tubeless rim tape and tubeless valves allow the S3 wheels to be run tubeless. The wide rim in combination with a wider tubeless outer tyre provides greater comfort, lower rolling resistance and increased puncture resistance. The weight limit for Scope S3 wheels is 95 kg. Scope is so confident of its quality that a three-year warranty is given on all wheels. In the event of a crash, it is possible to take advantage of the Scope lifetime crash replacement program.
Scope wheels are built almost like a "system". Each part is connected to - and developed with - the complete wheel in mind. To create high stiffness, Scope optimised the flange. After all, a wide flange accounts for almost 60% of the total lateral stiffness of a wheelset. Scope has succeeded in keeping the spoke tension constant despite the use of a wide flange. The wide flange, optimal spoke tension and stiff wide carbon rim result in a very high lateral stiffness; 47-52 Nm/mm, an industry benchmark! All your energy is converted into speed.
Aerodynamic and tubeless
By compiling data collected over more than a year, Scope has been able to determine the extent to which the wind affects a wheelset. "Computational Fluid Dynamics" was then used to develop the 26mm U-shape rim to minimise the influence of air resistance and crosswind from all angles. The result; outperforming other brands. The rim profile of the rim was optimized for tubeless tyres in collaboration with TU Eindhoven and Schwalbe, while remaining compatible with all wire and folding tyres. The internal rim width is 19 mm and fits perfectly with a 25 mm tyre.
Lightweight
The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft helped Scope to optimise the carbon structure for strength and stiffness. Scope was able to add extra reinforcement to the rim where the spoke nipples are, while saving weight between the spoke nipples; this was achieved using Local Reinforcement Technology. Together with Delft University of Technology, Scope has developed this technology further, reducing the weight of all racing and mountain bike rims without compromising stiffness and strength.
Extreme durability
Durability is the key factor in a hub's longevity. To protect the bearings from dirt and water, Scope has developed its own system. The end caps of the shafts completely seal the hubs in addition to the seals that seal the bearings themselves. Scope uses high-quality industrial SKF bearings. All in all, this helps to optimise the durability of the hubs.
3 Year Warranty
Quality is Scope's number one priority. After registering your wheelset on their website within 30 days of purchase, you activate the 3-year warranty. When registering your wheelset it is necessary to mention the serial number. This can be found on the registration card provided, the wheel box or on the flange of the rear hub.
Lifetime Crash Replacement Programme
Despite its high quality, a Scope wheelset cannot always withstand the consequences of a severe crash. This is why Scope offers a crash replacement programme in addition to the 3-year guarantee. With this programme, Scope gives you the chance to replace the wheel after a crash at a reduced rate.
• Scope quick release skewers
• Scope carbon brake pads
• Tubeless rim tape (premounted)
• Tubeless valves (pre-installed)
• 10 Speed cassette spacer
• Warranty registration card
• (possibly a torque wrench)
Installing a cassette on a wheel is easy if you have the right tools. If you purchase a cassette remover with a Shimano fit, you will be able to mount either a Shimano or Sram cassette on your rear wheel. Please note! For a Campagnolo cassette you need the Campagnolo tool. If you have a Shimano 9/10-speed cassette, first slide the spacer over the body. Then you place the cassette on the body. This can only be done in one way because of the fit of the body. Finally you turn the washer straight on by hand and tighten it with the cassette tool. Cassettes aren’t easily overtightened, but if you want you can use a torque wrench for this.
• For Shimano 9/10-speed, do not forget to mount the spacer first before installing the cassette.
• Make sure the rim tape is stuck well in the rim.
• The body for 12 speed Sram XDR has to be bought separately.
