Highly recommended: fully waterproof, easy to use, sits tight on the bike, and looks good!

- Bart, 14 August, 2023

Just enough space to slide my tent + mat in parallel, plus some spare inner tubes, then roll up tightly on both sides. Despite my somewhat narrow handlebars, this bag fitted very well. Only downside here is that the rolled-up ends were slightly in the way of my derailleur levers, although this is also due to my fairly compact handlebars. It would have been handy if the buckles could have been fastened around the bag as well (so left to right, along the front and back of the bag), but the straps just didn't make it. But this is no reason for minus points for me, I just ended up being able to switch gears without any problems. For repacking between stages, I didn't even have to remove the bag from the handlebars, which is handy, because once attached, it's also well secured. Doesn't shake, and stays nicely in place. Even with some extra things attached to the outside of the bag. Further: had 7 days of rain, but everything stayed dry (as far as it went in dry).

Pros & Cons

Easy to pack
Hangs tight on handlebars
Space for packing on the outside of the bag
Waterproof
Shifting gears is slightly hampered by narrow handlebars

Sturdy, good waterproof handlebar bag for bikepacking

- Dries, 10 August, 2023

I bought the bag for a 4-day trip with my mtb. In the beginning it was a bit of a puzzle how to mount the bag with all the cables I have. In the end, this still turned out okay. The bag was well waterproof. The strap at the back to attach the bag to your frame at the front caused slight damage to my frame due to the many twists. However, this is minor and not a big problem. Once the bag is mounted, it stays firmly in place, but if you want to take something out when it is already hanging on the handlebar, it is difficult to roll it up again properly.

Pros & Cons

Good closures and fastening straps
Sturdy and waterproof
The valve to make the bag as small as possible
Not quick to assemble and disassemble
Slight damage to my frame

Good product with few minor drawbacks

- Adam, 8 May, 2023

GreenDivide cycled along. Bag looks good quality and sits securely on handlebars. Assembly takes some time and the bag is not easy to take off. Bag is well waterproof and a valve helps with sizing when your luggage contents are smaller. Stuff is hard to get out on a handlebar with drops. Overall quality of what you would expect from Ortlieb.

Pros & Cons

Quality
Solid
Valve to vent
Mounting is time consuming
Not easy to remove from handlebar
With dropbar handlebar difficult to unpack

Perfect bag, 100% useful volume

- Ubald, 14 October, 2021

Perfect bag that is easier to use than the seat back, gives more cycling comfort than the seat back and more useful volume. If you only need one bag, I would always go for the handlebar pack, . In the bag I put a sea-to-summit drypack with my clothes. At the destination, you pull out the bag and have everything on hand. Attaching it was a chore, but once the bag is in place, it's really secure. During my 10 day tour, it did not move.

Great bag for on the handlebar

- Pieter, 4 August, 2020

I used this bag for an 8 day bikepacking tour with my road bike. Put my tent in the bag, 2.7kg. For the bag, I also had my sleeping bag attached to it. I had to check daily if I could keep shifting properly, so it was fitting and measuring. Sufficient possibilities to secure the bag. I would recommend using duct tape to protect the front of the frame. I did not do this and it does chafe. I did leave it on the handlebar at the end of the day and only undid the straps to take the tent out. Otherwise it is quite a hassle to have to do this every day.

Pros & Cons

Roomy
Solid bag
Securing a bit time consuming.

Really solid

- RG, 28 June, 2020

Like the seat pack this is a really good quality pack. I haven’t actually used it yet, but I’ve tried filling it with tarp/bivvi/pegs/sleeping bag and a couple of other bits, and I think I could get even more in there! Being able to load it from either side is really handy

Pros & Cons

Handy cargo net within reach
Load/unload from either side
Looks great
Lots of space
Very durable

Excellent value and quality

- Adam, 13 August, 2017

The Ortlieb's handlebar roll is number one bag of its type on the market. Considering its 100% waterproof, robust, light and made with extreme attention to detail, its price is still in the lower part of the spectrum. I'm just back from the first bikepacking weekend away with this product and it performed extremely well in wet conditions. Money well spent! Based on this bags' quality, I already ordered Ortlieb's seat pack bag to match. 9/10 as the styrofoam spacers have only one opening to pass the straps through, what causes them to move out of place, especielly the one attached to the stem. This is an easy fix though. Great bag otherwise, recommend.

Pros & Cons

Abrasion resistant
Easily detachable from the bike
Fully waterproof
Light
Sits well in position
Some loose treads
Spacer on the stem mount pops out of position
