Description

Description

The P Zero Velo is Pirelli's new high-end all-round bicycle tyre. The knowledge and know-how gained from years of experience in various motorsport disciplines have culminated in the creation of their crown jewel, the Pirelli P Zero Velo bicycle tyre. The same tyre technologies used in motorsport have been incorporated in the Pirelli P Zero Velo clincher. The heart of the tyre is Pirelli's very own SmartNET Silica rubber compound. The compound of the Pirelli P Zero Velo tyre is used in Formula 1 racing as the fast all-round tyre. This compound offers excellent traction both in wet and dry conditions, decent puncture protection, durability, and low rolling resistance. This combination makes the Pirelli P Zero Velo the new standard in the world of road bike tyres!

Technology

SmartNET Silica®
Pirelli's patented state-of-the-art compound has a unique formula. It has been developed over the years through extensive experience in motorsports including the ultimate discipline - Formula 1 racing. SmartNET Silica offers cyclists a truly uncompromising experience on the road. It provides low rolling resistance, grip both on dry and wet roads, durability, puncture resistance and low weight.

The unique long-shaped silica particles will place themselves in an organised and proportional way. This makes the tyre respond predictably and keeps its rolling resistance low. This is in stark contrast to the many tyres with an irregular structure. The SmartNET Silica® compound has chemistry with wet road surfaces. The silica and other particles of the compound can create a NETwork, increasing both durability and puncture resistance.

FGD - Functional Groove Design
The Pirelli P Zero Velo and P Zero Velo 4S both feature FGD (Functional Groove Design). This groove system was inspired by motorsports technology and is very similar to the grooves in the SSP tyre (SuperSports class in the World SuperBike racing competition): the Diablo Supercorsa. The pattern has multiple functions. It gets the most out of the tyre in terms of water drainage, dry and wet grip, durability, tyre responsiveness, comfort and handling.

The Functional Groove Design looks like a lightning bolt; it does so for several reasons. The tread pattern has sharp angles in the centre section with a clear lateral opening for water drainage, smoothness and easier tyre handling. In addition, the tread pattern has been designed to become progressively deeper so as to improve resilience and responsiveness even when cornering at high speed. The position of the grooves creates different contact points between the road and the tyre. All of this with the aim of achieving maximum tyre performance.

ICS - Ideal Contour Shaping
The shape of the tyre is just as important as the material and tread pattern. Pirelli has used CAD software, repeated simulations and subsequent analysis to optimise the tyre contour. This creates an ideal contact with the road surface to get the most out of the compound and tread pattern. Traction, stability, and a responsive and controlled reaction to any type of surface. The tyre will perform equally well on the flat, on a descent and through sharp corners.

Weight:
-23-622, 700 x 23c: 195 grams
-25-622, 700 x 25c: 205 grams

The manufacturer's weight indication may differ from the actual weight. The deviation is usually small and is due to variations in the production process.

An upgrade thats make your bike ride and look faster

- Tony 20 September 2020

Bought these 2 weeks ago to replace worn tyres, mostly because the look and price. Not only to they make your bike look better but they corner superbly and are fast rolling i noticed my rides seem to be faster by 1-2kmh since changing over. Compared to gp5000s they have a marginally higher rolling resistance but considering they look better and apparently have slightly better rolling restinace these are now my go to tyres. Only 9/10 because i havent tested durability.

Pros & Cons

Corners well
Look the part
No rolling resistance, weight penalty for the skin
Price
Slightly slower rolling than gp5000s

They feel fast and give my bike a Paris-Roubaix-esque look

- Henry 28 June 2020

Only been using these tires for a month now, but so far they are equally as good as the continental tires I’ve been using for the last couple of years on all my bikes. It’s great to see another well known tire manufacturer bring a product to market to compete with continental.
