Description

Description

The Mavic Ksyrium S road bike wheels for rim brakes is a nice upgrade for the standard wheels in your road bike. With an internal rim width of 19 mm, you experience more comfort, grip, speed and the rim of the Mavic Ksyrium S wheels can handle more load.

Thanks to the Infinity hubs, Mavic has created a contactless spoke pattern so there is no friction or annoying noises. As a result, Mavic Ksyrium S wheelsets maintain their spoke tension for longer, with less need for tensioning or aligning.

Mavic Care
Mavic Care allows you to extend your warranty to 3 years by registering your purchased wheelset on the Mavic website within 30 days. It also activates the crash replacement option which allows you to get up to 40% off a comparable product. You are eligible for this option if your wheel can no longer be repaired after a crash or accident.

MyMavic app
The MyMavic app (available from the App Store and Google Play) will advise on the correct tyre width and pressure to suit your rim width and surface.

Technology

(UST) Universal Standard for Tubeless
The rim is ready to ride without an inner tube. Rim tape is therefore not necessary. The UST concept improves traction, control, and comfort while reducing inertia and punctures.

(Instant Drive 360)
The new Instant Drive 360 freewheel body system is super light and features a quick engagement ratchet system with only 9° of engagement. A large rubber seal provides low friction and a good seal. An oversized axle and the hardened aluminium body save 40 grams.

(Maxtal) light and strong
Exclusive to Mavic, this specific aluminium alloy offers a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio than a conventional 6106 alloy.

(FORE) Stiffer and stronger
Instead of drilling spoke holes through the rim, the holes are made on the inside of the rim to leave the outside of the rim intact. This makes the rim 4 times stronger in durability while also increase stiffness by 20% for maximum power transfer.

(SUP) Stronger and smoother rim joint.
Soudé Usiné Process. After bending the rim, the rim is connected with a treatment that makes it much stiffer and smoother.

(ISOPULSE) Optimal energy transfer
The spokes are radial on the non-drive side and cross-spoked over 2 on the drive side for maximum power transfer. It also creates a perfect balance between the spoke tension of the left and right side of the wheel.

Compatibility

• To be used with Shimano and/or Sram 9/10/11 speed groupset

Delivery includes

• Mavic Ksyrium S wheelset
• BR601 quick release skewers
• UST tubeless valves
• Owners manual

Assembly

• Cassette remover Shimano or Campagnolo
• (possibly a torque wrench)

Installing a cassette on a wheel is easy if you have the right tools. If you purchase a cassette remover with a Shimano fit, you will be able to mount either a Shimano or Sram cassette on your rear wheel. Please note! For a Campagnolo cassette you need the Campagnolo tool. If you have a Shimano 9/10-speed cassette, first slide the spacer over the body. Then you place the cassette on the body. This can only be done in one way because of the fit of the body. Finally you turn the washer straight on by hand and tighten it with the cassette tool. Cassettes aren’t easily overtightened, but if you want you can use a torque wrench for this.

User tips

• Pay attention to the direction of travel when mounting your tyres.
• For Shimano 9/10-speed, do not forget to mount the spacer first before installing the cassette.
• Make sure the rim tape is stuck well in the rim.
• On both the front and rear wheel, there is a small adjustment screw on the left-hand side to adjust the side play.

Spokes popped nicely the first time the tyres were properly inflated. After this, the wheels feel tight during use. The outer tyre I bought with it, the Schwalbe Pro One, goes around the wheel with such difficulty that an inner tube went on when the Mantel mechanic tried it. So hopefully no punctures.

Pros & Cons

Sleek wheels
Stylish spokes
Outer tyre goes on wheel with difficulty

High-quality, lightweight rims - problematic mounting for some tyres

- Tim 21 December 2021

The wheels fully meet my expectations. They are light, run well, are well made and look good. Mavic's customer service is also exemplary - you get a competent answer to your questions quickly. However, the picture is mixed when it comes to assembly... I have two identical wheel sets of this type - one for my summer tyres and one for my winter tyres. Mounting the tubeless summer tyres (Schwalbe G-One Allround Performance 40-622) was unproblematic. The jackets went on the rims without any problems and I even got one tyre sealed with the normal floor pump. For the other tyre I needed a booster when mounting it for the first time, but that is often the case with tubeless tyres. Mounting the winter tyres (Schwalbe Marathon Winter Plus 42-622) was extremely difficult. The front tyre just went on the rim with a certain amount of force - but on the rear tyre I broke off two tyre levers, which was really annoying because part of one of the tyre levers ended up inside the tyre and I couldn't get the tyre off the rim for a while. The solution was to buy extra-long steel tyre levers, with which the removal/installation was not entirely without scratches, but at least it was possible. They are also so heavy that you don't always want to take them with you - the question is what to do in case of a puncture... All in all, I can really recommend the wheels, as long as you don't get the "wrong" tyres. Apart from that, when riding with the above-mentioned tyres, which are wider than the width recommended by Mavic, there have been no problems so far if you ride them with the right pressure.

Pros & Cons

Beautiful appearance
Light
Well made, high quality
Very difficult mounting for some tyres
