The Shimano Ultegra R8070 Disc groupset combines the best braking and shifting performance in one groupset. Thanks to the latest techniques taken over from the Shimano Dura Ace R9170 groupset you have a quality that is not much inferior to the Dura Ace at a more affordable price. For example, the rear derailleur Shadow is designed and further aligned under the cassette so that it is better protected against a possible impact. The crankset has also been redesigned to provide more efficient power transmission and reduce weight. The shifters have the same compact ergonomic design as the rest of the R8000 and R9100 series.

Shifters
The Shimano Ultegra R8070 Shifter + calliper offers unprecedented braking power and a feeling of proper dosing in descents or fast passages. The shape of the shifters closely matches the R8050, R8070 and R8000 shifters. Di2 shifters can be operated with the recently released full or semi-Synchronized Shifting (with BT-BN110 battery), which allows riders to switch the front (full) or rear (semi-Synchro) derailleur automatically. This means that you can, for example, set both left and right shifters to switch on and both right shifters to switch back. Also, the shifters also have a clear 'click' feel for fast and accurate shifting with gloves on.

Crankset
The Shimano Ultegra R8000 crankset is perhaps the most eye-catching part of the R8000 groupset. The robust asymmetric crankarm is derived from the Dura Ace R9100 crankset and provides more efficient crank transmission than its predecessor. The crank also incorporates Hollowglide technology for best weight to maximum rigid ratios. The choice of different chainrings combinations is large and easily interchangeable by the same stitch with a double 53-39T, mid-compact 52-36T, compact 50-34T and the 46-36T for cyclocross purposes.

Front derailleur
The front derailleur (FD) is designed for fast and smooth shifting at high pedal load. Combined with the restyled crankset, the front derailleur has been redesigned to accommodate both wider tyres and a wider gear unit without compromising shifting.

Rear derailleur
Shimano Shadow RD design: entirely underneath the cassette, protected from any damage. The RD comes in a short cage (SS) design for 11-25T to 11-30T and a long cage (GS) design for the 11-28T to 11-34T cassettes. Both Di2 front and rear derailleurs communicate with each other to work in full or semi-Synchronized Shifting, allowing the rider to focus on the road or race.
