Everything from the internal design to the chape of the chainrings are made to fit the 12 speed drivetrain.
X-Sync 2 is the name for Sram's new version of the narrow-wide profile. The teeth are higher and have chamfers in all directions. This makes the chain quieter and reduces friction a lot.
