Description

Description

The DT Swiss PR 1400 DICUT 21 OXiC ranks among the best aluminium racing wheels. In a nutshell, it is super light, attractive, stiff, has a solid DT Swiss 240 interior and great braking power with the OXiC brake track.

The PR 1400 wheels are aesthetically pleasing because of the hub flanges being shaped like diamonds. The wheels are constructed around the high-quality and smooth running DT Swiss 240 hubs. The low resistance in the bearings and good sealing increase the longevity of the hubs. The sleek DT Aero Comp Wide Straight pull spokes complete the picture. The DT ProLock Squorx Prohead spoke nipples keep the spokes firmly in place, ensuring a long service life.

The wheels have the DT Swiss OXiC brake track. The ceramic OXiC coating ensures better brake performance in comparison with ordinary aluminium rims. In addition, the ceramic coating of the OXiC brake track makes the OXiC extremely hard and wear-resistant. The tubeless ready rims have an internal rim width of 18 mm, which makes them suitable for road bike tyres of almost any width. Weighing no more than 1493 grams, this wheel set can be used both on hilly and on high mountain roads but the DT Swiss PR 1400 DICUT 21 OXiC will also perform very well on flat roads.

DT Swiss 240S hubs
A hub of Swiss precision, production and assembly. With smart and high-quality detail solutions DT Swiss has made the 240 into what it is today: a legend. With the latest refinements and sealing, the 240 hubs are extremely light and extremely durable. The ratchet system grips quickly, which makes it easier to pick up speed again after a turn. The 240 hubs contain bearings with higher tolerances than the 350 hubs. In other words, even more precision in their production results in even better running bearings with lower resistance.

OXiC brake track
OXiC is a process in which a ceramic coating is applied electrochemically to the aluminium rim, creating an extremely hard and wear-resistant brake track. The OXiC process gives the wheels a matte black, high-end appearance and guarantees fantastic brake performance in all circumstances while minimising wear. Because the ceramic coating is applied electrochemically, the brake track will keep its colour despite being exposed to UV radiation.

Pro Lock spoke nippels
Pro Lock is a process in which a patented 2-component adhesive fluid is injected into the nipple thread, which allows for extremely durable wheel constructions. When the nipple is turned onto the spoke the adhesive is activated and will begin to harden. Once it has fully hardened the wheel can still be adjusted, with only a minimal reduction in the locking function. As such, your wheels will be up to 20 times more durable, and spoke tension will remain accurate up to 20 times longer in comparison with wheels with no Pro Lock nipples.

Tubeless ready
These wheels are equipped with a tubeless ready rim which will allow you to ride with tubeless outer tubes and latex. With this set-up the risk of having a flat tyre is minimal. Punctures which do develop are filled with latex within seconds. Other advantages of tubeless riding are lower rolling resistance, a higher degree of comfort and better grip. Of course, you can also choose to use your old familiar folding tyres with inner tubes.

Technology

OXIC - Wear Resistant Brake Surface
This is a process during which a ceramic layer is applied to the brake surface, making it considerably harder and more durable. This leads to strong and reliable brake performance under all conditions. The ceramic layer is applied by submerging the brake surface in an electrolyte solution.

Assembly

• Cassette remover Shimano or Campagnolo
• (possibly a torque wrench)

Installing a cassette on a wheel is easy if you have the right tools. If you purchase a cassette remover with a Shimano fit, you will be able to mount either a Shimano or Sram cassette on your rear wheel. Please note! For a Campagnolo cassette you need the Campagnolo tool. If you have a Shimano 9/10-speed cassette, first slide the spacer over the body. Then you place the cassette on the body. This can only be done in one way because of the fit of the body. Finally you turn the washer straight on by hand and tighten it with the cassette tool. Cassettes aren’t easily overtightened, but if you want you can use a torque wrench for this.

The procedure for making your wheels tubeless is best described in our blog:
How do I mount a tubeless tyre on my road bike?

User tips

• Pay attention to the direction of travel when mounting your tyres
• For Shimano 9/10-speed, do not forget to mount the spacer first before installing the cassette
• Make sure the rim tape is stuck well in the rim

Style and efficiency

- Baptiste 8 December 2023

In the midst of assembling a neo-retro De Rosa, these wheels take up the style and efficiency of the old tubular wheels and bring them up to date. They give a real boost and make the bike pleasant and harmonious. On the road, they're up to the task and play their part to perfection. They combine aesthetics and efficiency at a very reasonable price. With a pair of beige sidewall tyres and latex inner tubes, you'll feel and look great!

Just top quality: Best aluminum wheels you can get

- Sander 1 July 2023

Folks, if you want the looks of carbon wheels but the braking power of aluminum wheels, don't hesitate. These are the wheels you want. Fantastic wheels for climbing, and very stable on descents. The wheels also have a nice feel for change of direction. Roadholding is very good, especially with 28mm tires mounted. Only downside is that the brake pads wear out a bit quickly, but I'm happy to take that. In summary: Don't hesitate, just do it.

Pros & Cons

"Confidence inspiring" in descending
Catch no wind
Fantastic wheels for popping up a mountain
Feel very light and stiff
Good quick releases (bushing style)
Bxp pads wear quickly
Sometimes some screeching when braking fast (brake pads)
