The Challenge Grifo has been the tube of choice for world champions for years! It offers both high amounts of grip, and low rolling resistance. The flexible carcass of the tube also provides excellent damping if you're running at a low tyre pressure. The tread is great for all-round use.

rubber peels off from cotton

A great tub overall. Feels great on grass, packed dirt, and dry harder surfaces (not tarmac or cobbles, but rather gravel roads). Gives a lot of confidence in corners in dry conditions. Out of three tubs I had, two separated between cotton and rubber (with the thread). Both times after ~350k off road. It started flapping as I was riding. I only wash my bike with water, no detergents. One surprising aspect was that they felt very slippery (more than I expected) on wet tarmac or stones & cobbles. Maybe only in comparison to their performance off road :).
