Our choice for an entry-level Smart trainer

Our choice for an entry-level Smart trainer

The Satori Smart measures the speed and cadence at which you ride and calculates the power output. You can adjust the resistance yourself using the handlebar switch, but it is not automatically adjusted based on your training software. The Satori Smart can be connected via Bluetooth and ANT+ to software such as the Tacx Desktop App, ZWIFT and Bkool.

Description

Description

The Tacx Satori Smart trainer allows you to train in your own specific way. The Satori Smart comes without a head unit, as you can connect your own preferred device instead, for instantly by pairing your smartphone or tablet. All your training data is streamed to your device, allowing you to keep a close eye on your training.

The Tacx Satori Smart has a powerful magnetic brake system which offers up to 950 Watt of resistance. The magnetic brake of the Satori isn't operated by software, but can be adjusted instead using a bar mounted lever which switches between 10 levels of resistance. This way, you precisely tune the resistance to your requirements. The Satori Smart is perfect for long endurance sessions or intense block training during which you want to monitor your data. The included Skyliner front wheel support raises your front wheel to the same level as the rear.

Tacx Cycling App (Via Bluetooth Smart and ANT+)
In order to optimise your training session, you can use the Tacx Cycling App. The app is simple and easy to use, and freely available from the App or Play store. The app allows you to relive videos of legendary climbs and stages. It also allows you to create your own training programmes using the Catalyst function, which can be based on heart rate, gradient, or power. The app also offers pre-installed conditional tests and training sessions. The training data is displayed during your training, and stored as well so you can review it afterwards (iPad only).

The Tacx Cycling App for iPhone and Android tablets doesn’t have the complete range of functionality. For more information, check the image above or the compatibility listing for a comprehensive list.

Great value turbo trainer and cheap power meter

- Mark 12 February 2017

Can't really fault it for the money. Resistance is very strong so I have not even tried it above 4 yet and even at 1 it takes a decent effort to get it over 40 km/hr. It integrates well with my Garmin Edge 520 and allows me to do power interval training and that was main reason to buy this over other lower end trainers. Calibration roll down every time you train is a pain but after 2 or 3 times you get the hang of it (but use the phone app for calibration or else it's hit or miss) Other than that it's very quick and easy to setup and it folds flat for storage. I have not tried it with any vitual training apps yet.

Pros & Cons

Broadcast power (speed/cadence also)
Easy setup
Good build quality
Strong resistance
Value for money
Power calibration tediou

Easy to set up and sync. Don't know how accurate it is, as I have no other cadence meter to compare against, but certainly "feels" accurate.
