Giro Aether Spherical

I was wearing this helmet when in my cycling peloton I hit a mate's rear wheel , overturned , ended up under my bike after my head hit the tarmac twice hard and was taken to hospital in the ambulance with a broken upper leg . The helmet suffered severe dents on two sides , but my head and neck were fine. When I regained consciousness after the operation, I immediately ordered the same helmet from Mantel. There is no better test !

After my old helmet was already over 5 years old, it was time for something new. Since Giro helmets fit me well and I have already had good experiences with Giro in crashes, I decided on the Aether with Spherical Mips. It is also beautiful and well made. It also fit like a glove. As is typical for Giro, I found the straps a bit fiddly, but you don't do that very often. It is very comfortable to wear and the ventilation is top.

Overall a very nice helmet and was also very happy with the colour scheme, 2 shades of red and not too bright. Unfortunately, after almost a year, cracks developed in the inner shell where the 'springs' attach to the outer shell. Returned for warranty to Mantel and got a full refund. Still didn't buy the same helmet again.

everything OK except 1 thing; Giro says that sunglasses can be easily placed on the front. I can't manage that easily. Could of course be me or my glasses......

Purchased having looked at many different Giro models, and as a replacement for my Giro Ionos that I have had for over 10 years. Aether model is similar in design to Ionos but comes with updated technology and is very comfortable and lightweight. The colour options are varied and I decided on Matte True Spruce as an alternative to Matte Black which was my original preference. I would absolutely recommend this helmet, but if the price puts you off, you can’t go far wrong with Giro!

Landed on the side/back of the head during a heavy fall (approx 50km/h). Apart from some usual roast beef spots on the body, my head remained completely intact. This is 100% thanks to the Aether's Spherical mips. Would hate to do it over with a Giro Synthe or similar;). Sad to order a new one, but it's well worth its money!

Helmet sits comfortably, allows easy adjustment. Good effective closure and, with the heat of the past few weeks, also plenty of wind through the hair. In short, a super purchase.

I've toyed with writing this review as it's always a subjective response however...I've had a number of Giro helmets before - in fact I'd credit them with saving my life. They have all fitted perfectly. When this was released I waited until the time was right to buy and duly did. Mantel delivery was excellent tried on and it felt great. So it was with an eager anticipation that I used this on a 160km ride. After about the first 10km I noticed a rubbing at the back of my head from the Roc Loc system which I have to say was unpleasant. I stopped and adjusted it - it felt slightly better but there was an clear rubbing on my head (being bald it's easier to see). No matter what I did it felt like it was scratching my head. On the plus side I was well ventilated! When I returned home I noticed there were rough edges on the Roc Loc so I decided to tape them up. not what you expect to do on a top of the range lid. The first ride wasn't sunny so I didn't wear my sunnies (yes I know the rules) however what was noticeable was the front of the helmet was low on the forehead. On the second ride I decided to wear sunnies and suffice to say at the end of the ride I had a bruised nose as a consequence of the low front pushing down on the glasses. Again I tried to adjust but couldn't get to a position whereby it was comfortable front and rear. Now there are plenty of reviews which say it is comfortable and maybe it is my head - as I say I've had Giro before and currently using a Protone. Putting the Protone back on after this was like putting a pair of comfy slippers on - it was chalk and cheese. I can't fault the style or the ventilation but as I say this isn't for me. Cut my losses and sold for a bit less than I bought it for as it couldn't be returned. My advice would be to try before you buy!

For me, who has a small head, the Giro Aether MIPS is a better, more snug fit than the Giro Synthe MIPS. It's comfortable, has great airflow and feels light to wear. The plastic part of the MIPs feels a bit jaggy on one side but I've only worn the helmet once so it may be that I had the adjustment a bit tighter than needed. Thank you to Mantel too for a first-class, very fast and responsive service.

First off - Mantel - what a pleasure it was to do business with you. An outstanding company! Now the Giro Aether. Comparing it with the Giro Synthe, which I also tried, I'm glad I paid the extra and went for the Aether. The MIPs spherical system is fully integrated, the helmet more comfortable and riding on a 28C day I can verify it is cooler than any helmet I've ever ridden in. It is is also a seriously stylish piece of kit. So why only 8 stars? Below this review, Adam has already remarked on the finishing but let me warn you it's poor. Rough edges, uneven bonding and signs of poor release inside the helmet when presumably it was taken out of its its mould. Does it affect the performance? No. Would I still buy it? Absolutely yes. But I would expect a quality helmet like this to have higher quality control. All in all, highly recommended but be aware of that finish.

First off its a real giro helmet, at this price you can be unsure. The helmet itself is great. Light, comfortable with the best MIPS tech going. Well worth the money with a saving of £60 plus. Delivery on time and customer service on point!

It’s a helmet with lots of safety features that I hope I don’t have to verify. But it is also the most important feature. It is expensive but I guess I only have one head. I have the large size and the weight is not noticeable while cycling. As for looks and design, it a bike helmet. They all look like a mushroom on your head. It says it is aerodynamic. It must be if it says it on the website! Under the current world situation, (May 2020). I would have like to try it on before purchasing but that was not possible. So I just measured my head and got the recommended size. Had I did try it and compared it with other helmets, I would probably have still bought this. To be honest, I didn’t look at that many helmets. There are not that many helmets that has the same safety features and a big discount.

It’s a dream to wear. Light, aerodynamic, stylish and extremely easy to precision adjust. The design means it sits better on my head all round than any others I’ve owned as a consequence I’m highly confident about The level of protection it provides. Where it fails is in the extremely flimsy back head cradle which came off on one side as soon as I unwrapped it. It’s held on by almost nothing - not because it’s cheap and badly made. It’s not the exceptional Robust lightweight quality I was expecting from a £200 + RRP helmet. And the same is true for the forehead cushion which is so thin and flimsy and insecure it’s almost a waste of time. I am staggered by the poor quality of these elements. I would have been disappointed by them in a £20 helmet. They are so out of keeping with the rest of the helmet which is so well engineered and designed

I was impressed by the presentation of the this Giro MIPS helmet. On examination I found it to be excellently engineered in comparison to others. The fit is perfect, the air flow is as defined and the construction overall inspires confidence.

Whilst it is an unusual wider shape at the sides and so may not suit every rider's taste, it still has the classic sleek Giro look which I've always loved. The innovative approach to MIPS is very effective with no hair pulling when taking it off and impeccable airflow better than my Synthe it replaced. I've seen the more rounded interior shape criticised for fit but on my head which I've always considered narrower it actually fits better than any other helmet I've ever worn EVER. The fit is highly and easily adjustable. When it's on I can easily forget it's there. I have no issues with the forehead being so low it butts against my eye protection, which some have reported - considering I wear big-lensed 100% Glendales I was worried about this when I ordered online without trying it first. All-round fabulous helmet and a brilliant price on Mantel.

The only lid that I’ve tried that compares in terms of comfort is the Kask Mojito. This is a lovely helmet; very light and stylish and the ports either side of the temples to hold sunglasses is excellent - they simply don’t slip. Thoroughly recommended.

The best looking and most and most highly technical Helmet just got a new colour for the 2020 season and boy is it a Bobby Dazzler! The True Spruce colour way is really striking but subtle at the same time. I have been wearing the Aether mips helmet as my go to lid since it’s inception a couple of years ago and having compared it with other helmets for things like safety and comfort features I wouldn’t wear anything else. Luckily, up to now I have not had to put the Mips safety features to the test but I have every faith in them should I get unlucky one day. The Helmet looks stunning, is very comfortable to wear and exceptionally well ventilated and just gives you that Pro look on your head. The Giro Aether Mips just works but happens to look great in the bargain. And build and construction is of a high standard too...like all the Giro products. Mantel also offer this helmet at a very competitive price compared with some other well known online retailers making you a considerable saving.....even the new True Spruce 2020 edition can be had for the same bargain price. All in all a no brainer pick for your next helmet. Order with confidence that you will be getting a top product backed up by the superb Mantel customer service which is in my experience the best on the market. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I usually buy a new helmet every year, and generally stick to Giro as I like the fit and quality of their helmets. This new helmet meets with my expectations being a good fit, light and comfortable. The adavanced mips system looks very good, I'm just hoping I never get the chance to find out just how effective it is. I'm also very pleased with the service and prices from Mantel.

Very "pro" looking, as I'm told. Bought this for a hot Pyrenees trip as I only had a Bontrager Ballista (hardly any ventilation), Aether did the job very well. Mantel also had this at a VERY low price, so thank you Mantel.

Giro Aether MIPS helmet, is a great looking helmet and comfortable to wear. Arrived when scheduled and well packed. It’s very light and you would easily forget you are wearing it. Dial at the back allows you to easily secure the helmet. Very good product indeed and a good price from Mantel

The helmet fits snugly but the shape of the sides of the helmet causes it to sit on my sunglasses. The effect of this is that my sunglasses carry the weight of the helmet and press on the bridge of my nose. To resolve this i either needed to lower my ears or alternatively i had to put thicker pads in place of the insubstantial pads that the helmet is supplied with. This has lifted the helmet enough to make it comfortable. Shouldn't really have to go to this trouble for a helmet at this price level. This said, it is a nice looking lid.

Great price and speedy delivery from Mantel. I can't find anything to fault with this helmet. It's very light and has many ventilation holes which work well in hot weather. It's very comfy straight out of the box, all I had to do was adjust the strap and take the label off. I bought it on the back of all the positive reviews in the press (and reviews from people who had bought it), they weren't wrong.

Purchased primarily for safety - but weight and looks a big factor. Only one slight niggle is (at least for me) wearing cycling glasses with it is a little challenging to fit in properly around the straps. Cracking helmet though - half weight of previous. Pricey too - but mantel deal twisted my arm... Very comfortable and hardly know you're wearing it.

Usual high quality lif from Giro bought as a crash replacement for a Synthe MIPS. Feels as fast as the Synthe but catches cross winds due to greater ventilation . Perfect for fast summer rides.

Great helmet with really good ventilation (although my hair pokes through a little so I’ll have to keep my mop short) and no pinching of my hair by the MIPS. Best price was from Mantel by some margin. I went for the red helmet which looks just amazing.

The Aether is the most comfortable helmets I have worn and looks absolutely amazing too. The MIPS protection system has been really well integrated into the design and looks far more robust than the previous MIPS helmets. The build quality is incredible too. Admittedly, I have only worn it a few times so far but I couldn't be happier with it.
