Whether or not a garment is waterproof depends on the type of fabric which has been used or any water-repellent layer which may have been added. The degree of waterproofness can be divided as follows. 'Not waterproof' - This garment is not waterproof and will let any water get in. 'Splashproof' - Most of these products have a coating and will repel the first few drops. 'Water-repellent' - This gets closer to being waterproof. The product easily repels splashing water or a light rain shower. 'Waterproof' - This product is fully waterproof and also has taped seams so that water cannot penetrate into it.
