Our choice of cyclocross pedals

Our choice of cyclocross pedals

The Crankbrothers Eggbeater 2 are our choice for Cyclocross pedals. This is because these pedals have large openings that allow sand and mud to all trough. You can also click in from four sides, which means your shoe will be back on faster. That way you can accelerate faster!

Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • This pedal has durable bearings.
  • Engage your shoes from 4 different sides, so you won't miss your pedal again.
  • The large openings prevent mud from getting caught in the pedal.
  • Lightweight.
  • Require regular maintenance. Fortunately, changing the bearings is something you can easily do yourself with the Crankbrothers Service Kit.
  • The body tends to dig into carbon soles. Use the Shoe Shields to prevent this from happening.

Description

Description

Are you looking for a pedal that is extremely durable and has a watertight seal? Then the Eggbeater 2 pedal is an excellent choice. A mid-range pedal in the Crankbrothers segment with an excellent price-performance ratio.

Standing in ease of use
Crankbrothers pedals are praised for their low weight and the ability to engage on four sides. The large open spring construction ensures that no mud will stick to the pedal and that you can engage the pedal in any condition. Not only does this mean these pedals are easy to use, but their simplicity means they last a long time!

Made to last
Crankbrothers Eggbeater 2 pedals are made from high-quality stainless steel, making them highly resistant to corrosion. The double sealing of the bearings ensures that dirt and water do not affect these pedals as easily, keeping them running smoothly for many miles.

The perfect pedal , easy in and out, last a little less....

- JAWS 1 February 2023

The pedal for the much demanding ATB'r, always click in from 4 sides regardless of sand and mud on the bottom of your shoes. Easy in and out, ample side clearance. By now 3rd set though, Eggbeater is high maintenance and over time you just have to replace them. More expensive than traditional pedals in that respect.

A great design

- Darren 10 October 2019

I love using these pedals for my road and mtb but my biggest gripe is the build quality isn’t their for me they seem to last for about a year then boom the bearings give up or the pedal slides off the spindle if only crankbrothers could sort this out

Pros & Cons

A great design and easy to use
Poor build quality

Great pedal

- Will 27 June 2019

Great pedal. Usually ride Shimano XT/XTR but these are lighter and clear mud more easily (I race CX and XC). Took me a while to re-educate my feet when clipping in blind, but now ok.

Pros & Cons

Cheap

Mud clearance
No large ‘landing area’ for foot.
Unfamiliarity.

Put the Pedal to The Mantel

- MARK 23 June 2016

Tried and tested design, 4-sided easy access, clears mud, great float, lightweight, needs maintenance from time to time, but we all need a little Tender Loving Care. Can't be beaten, (Pun Intended), at this price.
