The Absolute Black Shimano Narrow-Wide chainring is the perfect solution if you want to ride single speed on your mountain bike. Thanks to the special "wide-narrow" teeth your chain remains on the chainring, this means you don't need a chain guide anymore.
It's possible to run a 10 or 11-speed shifting system on your bike.

3x9 converted to 1x9. Nice job to do yourself. I didn't need the crank spanner. Just an in bushing and a shimano tone for the crank nut. Unfortunately, the old chainring bolts were just a bit too long for this single blade. This did cause some fiddling for a while. Looks a lot better now. Weight saving is not so bad. But it does save a lot of parts on your bike.
