Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • Weighing 1352 grams, the 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake can rightly be called a lightweight. Climbing and sprinting have never been so easy!
  • Zipp's "Tubeless Made Easy" system allows you to make the wheels tubeless in no time, even without using a compressor.
  • With an internal rim width of 25mm, 28mm tyres fit perfectly, with maximum aerodynamic benefits, high comfort and low rolling resistance.
  • The Zipp ZR1 hubs, developed in Germany, have bearings with a good seal and improved durability. The 6 pawl body engages super fast, minimising energy loss when starting.
  • Lifelong warranty on production faults, except for wear and tear. Ultimate security!
  • The Sapim J-bend spokes provide more comfort than straight pull spokes, but give less stiffness to the wheel.
  • The Zipp 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake is only suitable for tubeless (ready) tyres at a maximum tyre pressure of 5 bar, not for normal folding tyres.

Description

Description

With the Zipp 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake, Zipp has put one of the most versatile wheels on the market; from smooth cycle paths to Flemish cobblestones, from flat polder roads to hills, from asphalt to gravel; the Zipp 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake feel at home everywhere.

Despite a height of 40 mm, the Zipp 303s have a weight of 1352 grams, which can justifiably be called 'lightweight' for a wheel set for disc brakes. The 30 mm wide tubeless-ready rim has an internal rim width of 25 mm. In combination with 28 mm tyres Zipp guarantees the best performance; low rolling resistance, good aerodynamics, grip and comfort. It is possible to mount tyres from 25 mm to 55 mm. Fitting is easy thanks to Zipp's 'Tubeless Made Easy' system and can even be done without a compressor. The Zipp ZR1 hubs, which were developed in Germany, are the focal point of the 303 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake wheels. These hubs roll extremely smoothly, have well-sealed industrial bearings and engage quickly due to a 6-pawl body with 66 engagement points. The rims and hub are held in place by reliable and aerodynamic Sapim CX-Sprint spokes.

TSE (Total System Efficiency technology)
With Total System Efficiency Technology, Zipp has only one thing in mind; more speed! The innovative rim lay-up reduces aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance, weight, vibration and durability.

Tubeless Made Easy
Tubelessing your wheels has never been easier. The rims are optimised for easy fitting without tools. You don't even need a compressor to fit the tyre. A tubeless system allows riding at a lower tyre pressure, resulting in lower rolling resistance, more comfort and more grip in all conditions.

ABLC SawTooth
The ABLC SawTooth design features Zipp's signature golf ball structure. It ensures that the airflow is directed along the surface of the rim for optimum aerodynamics. Stability is also improved, ensuring greater comfort.

Rolling road test protocol
Zipp continues to optimise its wheels in the wind tunnel and through computer simulation. However, Zipp realises that the 'real world' is the best environment to test a wheel. Zipp calls this combination of wind tunnel testing and real world testing the RollingRoad Test Protocol. This has resulted in an even more convex rim that becomes one with the tyre. This gives you even more stability and less air resistance. This makes it easier to keep your bike up to speed and less energy is lost. Because the rim is wider, you can mount even wider tyres. With a larger tyre volume and lower tyre pressure, vibration is reduced, resulting in less fatigue on long rides.

Zipp ZR1 hubs
At the heart of these Zipp wheels is a durable hub set, designed in Germany; the Zipp ZR1. This hub features well-sealed industrial bearings with extremely low rolling resistance. The rear hub has a body with 66 touch points for a faster response when cranking.

Zipp Lifetime Warranty
The Zipp Lifetime Warranty gives you a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects. This gives you ultimate security! The warranty becomes active after registration of your wheel(s) with Zipp and is non-transferable.

A nice, stiff and responsive pair of wheels, but comfortable nonetheless.

- Pierre 24 July 2022

This is my first pair of tubeless wheels, and my first pair of Zipps. A very responsive pair, but still very comfortable with 28mm tires. I'm used to riding 23 or 25s, but I feel like I'm getting a lot more out of these 28s! You have to pay the price, but this wheelset is worth the detour!
