Description

Description

The Rival 22 Yaw front derailleur represents a serious improvement in shifting performances. The Yaw front derailleur cage moves in the same line as its chain, this improves the precision and speed when shifting up and prevents trimming your front derailleur, because there is no chain rub.

The Chainspotter ensures your precious frame is spared from scratches when your chain accidentally falls next to its chainring. This handy stick fills up the space behind your inner chainring, so your chain doesn't have any space to get stuck between your frame and chainring.

Technology

• The Yaw cage moves in line with the chainline. This improves gear changing speed and precision. Moreover, the chain doesn't rub against the cage.
• Integrated chains spotter protects your frame if your chain would run off its chain ring.
• Weight: 89g incl. Chain Spotter

Assembly

Reduce the tension on the gear cable
Before starting to (dis)assemble, shift the front derailleur to the smallest blade. That way the tension on the gear cable is smaller, making it easier to release the derailleur.

Disconnect the gear cable
Use an Allen wrench to disconnect the shift cable from the derailleur. An Allen key can be found here.

Disassemble the bike chain
Before you can remove the derailleur, you must remove the chain. You will need a chain breaker or missing link pliers for this. The chain breaker can be found here and the missing link pliers can be found here.

Position the front derailleur
When installing, make sure to leave a gap of about 2 mm between the outer edge of the derailleur and the largest chainring.

Adjust your derailleur
It is important to properly adjust the derailleur after mounting. This is a meticulous job, which you can read all about here.

User tips

Grease the pivot points for proper operation
It is good to lubricate the pivot points and the cable with some oil from time to time. This keeps the front derailleur shifting smoothly. Good oils that you can use not only for this, but also for lubricating the rest of the drivetrain, can be found here.

4 / 5

Ok not great

- David 30 March 2021

Mantel service excellent, but the derailleur is no more than ok. It could be the frame (Boardman Team Carbon 2009) but chain rub is noticeable at the top of the cassette in the big ring & at the bottom of the cassette in the inner ring

Pros & Cons

Works ok with Force 22 shifters
Does not use of full 22 gears
