Pros & Cons

Pros & Cons

  • The Bone Conduction Technology allows you to hear both your music and ambient sound and to participate in traffic safely.
  • As nothing presses on your ears, you can wear these headphones for a long time without experiencing pain or discomfort.
  • As there are three different sound modes, there is certainly one that suits you best.
  • These headphones are only splash proof and cannot be immersed in water.
  • Because of the placement just outside the ears, these headphones may be less convenient for people who wear glasses.

Description

Description

As of January 1, 2022, AfterShokz has a new name: Shokz. Its products remain unchanged.

The AfterShokz OpenMove is one of the better models among the headphones that make use of Bone Conduction Technology. Thanks to this clever technology, you can listen to music and hear ambient noise simultaneously. Thus, you are always aware of your surroundings while exercising. How this works? With bone conduction there is no traditional speaker that needs to be placed in your ear. Instead, the headphones are placed on the cheekbones, just in front of the ears. Transducers send minuscule vibrations through the cheekbones, which the brain then converts into sound. While this may sound like magic, you'll be surprised to know that this is the 7th generation of this technology, so it really is a mature product! Thanks to the 6-hour battery life you can enjoy music or podcasts throughout your longest bike rides. And as the OpenMove weighs a mere 29 grams, you will hardly feel you're wearing it. Controlling the headphones is easy with a button on the ear cup; there's no need to have your telephone handy to adjust the volume or skip a track, for example.

Safety in traffic while listening to music
It's always a trade-off: either listen to music during exercise or leave your earphones at home to be able to hear the traffic around you. With the AfterShokz OpenMove, you don't have to make this choice. Thanks to the bone conduction technology you can listen to your favourite artist or podcast wherever and whenever you want. As your ears remain open, you can always be alert while exercising as you can hear ambient sound and be aware of the traffic around you. Do you find it important to participate in traffic safely while enjoying your music? Then choose the AfterShokz OpenMove!

AfterShokz line-up
The OpenMove is a wireless headphone with a very good price/quality ratio. Compared with the slightly more expensive AfterShokz Aeropex it offers a shorter battery life and lower water resistance rating, but it comes at a considerably lower price.

Technology

Bone Conduction Technology
Bone Conduction ear pieces do not go directly into your ear canal and bypass your ear drums completely. There is no traditional speaker that you place in your ear. Instead, there is a component at the ends of the headphones that transmits vibrations via your cheekbones. These are sent to the auditory nerves and then to the brain. Your brain receives them as ordinary sounds. This product features the 7th generation of bone conduction technology. The best characteristic of this technology is that your ear canal and ear drums are bypassed to avoid any risk of damage to your hearing and to allow you to always be aware of ambient sound directly through your ears. This makes bone conduction headphones very suitable for use in outdoor sports.

Noise-cancelling microphone
Of course, these Bluetooth headphones also have a microphone. In fact, the OpenMove has two! Both use noise-cancelling technology, eliminating ambient sounds such as wind noise and making you sound great when you're talking to someone even while riding your bike!

Bluetooth 5.0
Thanks to the Bluetooth 5.0 chip you will have a strong and stable music connection no matter what you are playing. With a maximum range of 10 metres, you can even walk around the house without having to have your phone in your pocket all the time.

Multi-Point Pairing
These wireless headphones feature Multi-Point Pairing, which allows you to connect different devices to the same headphones. Thus, you can switch quickly and easily between your smartphone and your laptop, for example.

Great choice for safe calling while cycling or walking, stay in touch with the outside world.

- Mark 16 January 2022

It is a pleasant set of earphones, the sound is good and the bone-conduction keeps you fully in touch with the geluide of the outside world. Pleasant and safe. Great for walking phone calls, for example, or watching a movie on Netflix without disturbing others. The sound when combined with hearing protection is even better. Music lovers may be better off with earphones that reproduce more bass.

Pros & Cons

easy to use
good sound
reasonably robust
less comfortable than Aftershokz Aeropex
