Scope S5 Road Bike Wheels

The Scope S5 Rim-brake road bike wheels for rim brakes should be at the top of your list if you are looking for a wheelset for races. The 55 mm high aerodynamic rim is designed for high speeds. It's extremely stiff and brakes excellently. These wheels pick up speed quickly after cornering or when you start accelerating for a sprint. While braking with a carbon brake rim can often feel challenging, the S5 wheels give you a lot of confidence. With this specially-developed Scope rim combined with the Scope brake pads you'll have great braking performance, even in the rain. The braking surface can withstand temperatures of up to 280 degrees Celsius. While many high rims perform poorly in windy conditions, this is not the case with the S5 wheels. On the contrary, Scope has designed its rim to be resistant to crosswinds, providing great stability at higher speeds.

The Scope S5 Rim-brake wheelset features durable SKF bearings with good sealing and low rolling resistance. It also has the new 3-pin hubs, which provide good engagement and have excellent durability. The wheels have aerodynamic 55mm high rims with a 26mm external rim width. With the pre-installed tubeless rim tape and tubeless valves, you can ride tubeless with the S5. The wide rim combined with a wider tubeless tyre provides greater comfort, lower rolling resistance and increased puncture resistance. There is no weight limit for the Scope S5 wheels simply means they are super sturdy, and therefore, Scope offers a 3-year warranty and a lifetime crash replacement program.

3-year warranty
Quality is the number one priority at Scope. You activate your 3-year warranty coverage by registering your wheelset on the Scope website within 30 days of the purchase. It is required that you enter the serial number of the wheelset. You can find this number on the included registration card, on the box of the wheels or on the rim base.

Technology

High lateral stiffness
Scope wheels are built as a system. Each part is connected and developed with the complete wheel in mind. To create this high level of high stiffness, Scope has optimised the flange. After all, a wide flange accounts for almost 60% of the total lateral stiffness of a wheelset. Scope has kept the spoke tension constant despite this wide flange. The wide flange, optimal spoke tension and stiff wide carbon rim combined have resulted in a very high lateral stiffness; 47-52 Nm/mm, an industry benchmark! This means all your energy is converted into speed.

Aerodynamic and tubeless
By compiling data that Scope has gathered for over a year, they were able to determine the extent to which wind affects a wheelset. "Computational Fluid Dynamics" were then used to develop the 26mm U-shape rim that minimises the influence of air resistance and crosswind from all angles. This resulted in Scope outperforming all other brands. The rim profile has been optimized for tubeless tyres in collaboration with TU Eindhoven and Schwalbe, while remaining compatible with all wire and folding tyres.

Lightweight
The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft helped Scope to optimise the strength and stiffness of the carbon structure. Scope was able to add extra reinforcement to the rim at the spoke nipples, while reducing weight between the spoke nipples. They achieved this by using Local Reinforcement Technology. Together with TU Delft, Scope has further developed this technology, reducing the weight of all road and mountain bike rims without compromising stiffness and strength.

Extreme durability
Durability is crucial to the durability of a hub. To protect the bearings from dirt and water, Scope has developed its own system. The end caps of the axles completely seal the hubs, in addition to the seals that seal the bearings themselves. Scope uses high-quality industrial SKF bearings. All combined, this helps to optimise the durability of the hubs.

Assembly

• Cassette remover Shimano or Campagnolo
• (possibly a torque wrench)

Installing a cassette on a wheel is easy if you have the right tools. If you purchase a cassette remover with a Shimano fit, you will be able to mount either a Shimano or Sram cassette on your rear wheel. Please note! For a Campagnolo cassette you need the Campagnolo tool. If you have a Shimano 9/10-speed cassette, first slide the spacer over the body. Then you place the cassette on the body. This can only be done in one way because of the fit of the body. Finally you turn the washer straight on by hand and tighten it with the cassette tool. Cassettes aren’t easily overtightened, but if you want you can use a torque wrench for this.

User tips

• Pay attention to the direction of travel when mounting your tyres.
• For Shimano 9/10-speed, do not forget to mount the spacer first before installing the cassette.
• Make sure the rim tape or tubeless tape is place properly inside the rim.
• The body for 11-12 speed Sram XDR has to be bought separately.
