Description
The Bontrager Solstice MIPS mountain bike helmet is a nice compact helmet with extra good protection thanks to the use of MIPS. In the helmet shell an extra layer is added, which can slide when you fall hard on your head to reduce the impact and the chance of a concussion. To make sure the helmet stays on your head during a crash, it features the Bontrager Headmaster Fit adjustment system that allows you to adjust the helmet with one hand. The helmet straps have a divider for adjusting the straps so that the helmet sits comfortably on your head, and also to prevent the straps flapping. The chin buckle is a Fidlock magnetic buckle, so you can remove the helmet quickly and easily without fiddling. The Bontrager Solstice MIPS mountain bike helmet has a removable visor and removable, washable helmet pads.
The MIPS system consists of a low friction intermediate layer between the EPS foam lining and the padding that has elastic attachments. This allows the helmet to move slightly (slide and rotate) in relation to the head in the event of a fall, thus absorbing the lateral and rotational forces involved in a fall. This is different from a helmet without MIPS, where the blow is absorbed only by a compression of the EPS lining.
