The Time Atac XC2 mountain bike pedals are highly underappreciated, as they're a great alternative to anyone considering Shimano pedals. The so-called Auto Tension Adjust Concept uses the same design as more expensive pedals. Happily used by Julien Absalon, multiple XC world champion!

The main advantage over Shimano pedals is the fact that they release mud more easily. You also don't need to adjust the spring tension. By swapping the cleats from left to right and vice versa, you can change between 13 and 17 degrees of free play. This larger angle is kinder to your knees, giving them more space to move freely.

Although the ATAC pedals are similar to the Crank Brothers pedals, there's a major difference in spring engagement. The click-feel under your feet remains the same, regardless of what is stuck to your shoes.
