Lezyne Cycle Computers - Excellent Navigation and Effortless Pairing with your Smartphone
Lezyne cycling computers just made picking a new cycling computer that little bit harder. Lezyne is particularly known for producing well-designed, high quality CNC machined aluminium products. They build mini-tools, floor pumps, and bicycle lights. A year ago, they added bike computers and GPS bicycle navigation to the mix. The Lezyne cycling computers are affordable yet they’re fitted with some of the latest technologies. So which Lezyne bike computer can do what, exactly? Kenneth decided to find out.
Something which instantly stands out with all Lezyne cycle computers is that they pair with your smartphone. All of the important functionality on the cycle computer can be accessed from the Lezyne GPS Ally app. No smartphone? Then you can still use the software for regular computers, Lezyne GPS Root.
Turn-by-turn cycling navigation
If you use the GPS Ally app, then you’re able to push turn-by-turn information to your Lezyne device. All Lezyne cycle computers are able to navigate to a destination this way. It does require you to maintain a constant connection between the phone and head unit.
A nice extra is that you’re able to keep an eye on the battery life of your mobile phone on the display of the bike computer as well.
Always up to date on your notifications
Another popular feature of the Lezyne bicycle computers is that you’re able to receive text and email notifications, as well as incoming calls, on the device.
You can even let your friends know you’re going out for a ride by sending an automated email every time you start a new activity. Your friends or family can then keep track of your entire ride through the Live Tracking mode.
Lezyne Cycle Computer - Pairing to Strava
An increasingly common function with GPS cycling navigation is the ability to pair with Strava Live Segments. This will give you realtime feedback on whether you’re conquering that KOM or QOM, or whether you’re smoking your previous personal best.
The Super GPS offers this function as well. The previously mentioned phone app also allows you to check out the segments uploaded to your phone.
Pairing your phone and sensors with Bluetooth Smart
All Lezyne bike computers are fitted with a Bluetooth Smart chip. This is used to communicate with both your smartphone and sensors. While Lezyne manufactures its own sensors, it’s also open for use with sensors by for instance Wahoo.
Besides being able to pair with a heart rate monitor, speed sensor, and cadence sensor, the Lezyne cycle computers can link up with a power meter as well. Extremely convenient if you want to turn your Lezyne bike computer in a true training partner.
Lezyne Super GPS and the Lezyne Micro GPS
The Lezyne Super GPS and the Lezyne Micro GPS are the two top of the range models in the line-up. These carry all the technical gizmo’s you could dream of. Both of them are fitted with a GPS chip for instance.
The Lezyne Super GPS has a GLONASS chip fitted besides the regular GPS chip as well. GLONASS is the Russian version of GPS and, when used in conjunction with the GPS chip, will provide you with an even more accurate location.
The Lezyne Super GPS also has a barometric altimeter and a temperature sensor. Besides the Bluetooth Smart chip, which is fitted to all Lezyne cycling computers, the Lezyne Super GPS and Lezyne Micro GPS also have an ANT+ chip.
This means you’ll also be able to pair ANT+ sensors, for instance those by Garmin. It also enables you to pair the head unit to electronic groupsets.
The Lezyne Macro GPS
The Lezyne Macro GPS is the same external size as the Super GPS, but inside it has been slightly trimmed down. It does have the same basic functionality such as GPS and the ability to pair sensors. It doesn’t connect to wireless groupsets however, and it doesn’t have a barometric altimeter.
It does come at a friendlier price however. It’s up to you then to decide whether you want the best of the best, or perhaps you just don’t need all that extra functionality. Below is a simple table to denote the differences between the various Lezyne cycle computers.

Lezyne cycle computers with sensors
All Lezyne cycle computers are available both as a separate device and as a bundle. If you opt for a bundle, then you get a heart rate monitor and cadence sensor included as standard. This way, you’re all set to go right from the start!

I'm a recreational rider who's more into computers and gadgets than the fast times they're capable of recording. I've owned the same Trek road bike for the last 10 years, but I've gained an interest in single-speed bikes. I love to ride with friends, but don't feel the constant need to be the fastest of the bunch. At Mantel, I work as a productmanager for the Bike Accessories in our range.
